Breakfast in Europe

They say a picture is worth a thousand words.  And I'm going to rely on that truth for the purposes of this post, because if I attempted to describe in any meaningful detail every single one of the following photos, my laptop would curl up and die.  So bring on my longest post yet!

ROME

Breakfast in Rome. Totally worth navigating the steamy underground maze of rail tunnels for.  Continental buffet breakfast @ Hotel InterContinental de la Ville = ready for an epic day of sightseeing!

Wandering the streets of Rome.

The Colosseum in bread form.

FLORENCE

Breakfast terrace at our hotel in Florence.

For some reason, Italian buffet breakfasts always have cake ...

This was my absolute favourite coffee shop in Florence - beautiful decor, amazing marzipan fruits, and the cutest miniature cakes you've ever seen!

The little cake on the right was absolutely pumped with liquor! We found that a lot in Italy, that the Italians don't mess around with the heavy stuff.  Even the smallest tiramisu is capable of tipping you over the edge.

Pinocchio on the Ponte Vecchio.

Although Florence is known as the gelato capital of Italy, the best gelato I had on the entire trip was in Prato. It was the Italian version of cookies and cream, called frollino, and it was a.m.a.z.i.n.g.  Like, to die for. And only 1 euro for a cup! And given the heat and our excitement, and the desire to avoid melted icecream on our hands, sadly no photos were taken of this mouthwatering experience. But the memories live on.

My favourite place in the world - Piazzale Michelangelo, Florence. Home of breathtaking wedding photos, judging by the three different brides we saw at sunset!

SAN GIMIGNANO

San Gimignano 1300, miniature replica of the walled medieval city.
Best pizza. Enormous in both flavour and value. 2,50 euros?

PRATO

An industrial city, heavy in textiles, and probably not a holiday destination for most tourists, despite its proximity to Florence. But it definitely had the best gelato (for me anyway) and some of the cutest pastries.

Pastries on the terrace before class. Buttery clouds with crispy linings. One euro each.

VENIZIA

Second favourite place in the world: colourful Burano island. I absolutely love pastels, and this was pastel heaven. It was sort of like a Dr Seuss book, plus rainbows and butterflies, all rolled into one. I honestly wouldn't have been surprised to see a Smurf strolling down the street. Heaven.

This is actually my favourite print advertisement, hence the pastel obsession.

View from the campanile, Venice.

MILAN

Breakfast in Milan - Hotel Michelangelo.

I never realised there were so many different types! The marmalade one was my favourite.

Bridal shop, Milan. A sure sign of a bridezilla in the making = demanding a floating wedding dress.

Shopping in Milan, Quadrilatero d'Oro.

Lunch in the cute little neighbourhood of Brera, Milan. Best pasta of the trip. If only I remembered what was in it ...

PARIS

Who could resist berries when they're packaged so sweetly?

Only time for a few, since the French trains arrive almost every minute.

Pit stop on our way up to the Sacre Coeur.

Crepes @ Montmartre.

Angelina, Rue Rivoli, Paris.

Random bakery near Jardins de Luxembourg. Best croissants ever.

Fauchon, Paris.

Why pay Louvre admission when you can have your painting and eat it too?

Smoked salmon millefeuille - amazing.

Caramel madeleine @ Fauchon, Place de la Madeleine.

Afternoon tea @ the Ritz, Paris.

The Louvre, late-night Wednesdays in summer.

Pierre Herme macarons from Galeries Lafayette. I still prefer Adriano Zumbo's!

 LONDON

Breakfast in Bloomsbury. Nothing better than hot toast, melted butter and berry jam.

Tea @ the Dorchester Hotel, London.

Because glitter makes everything taste better :)

My tea was called 'Paris'.

View from St James' park.

Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans - almost. These literally tasted like their descriptions *shudder*. I only made it halfway through the packet before I gave up - it was way too traumatic. The rotten egg one literally made me want to gag! Then again, no pain no gain - the berry blue was awesome :)

Sorry for the length! Hope your eyes aren't too tired :)

Happy exploring.

Thanks guys!! Sorry, I've always wanted to reply to comments, but for some reason blogspot never allowed me to reply on my own blog! Think the problem's now solved.
